The NCAA college basketball season is a very popular hit for alumni’s, students, and fans alike. As any true fan of the game will tell you, there is something very unique and special about college basketball arenas. College basketball arenas come in all shapes, sizes and variety. Their features are very different and reflect the culture not only of the campus, but of the basketball fans. The unique atmosphere that every NCAA venue brings makes it for a very memorable experience when catching a game.
The Palestra has hosted more NCAA basketball games than any other facility in the nation. Opened in 1927, the small arena is famed for its intimate atmosphere, with the bleachers extending right up to the court.
This arena was named for legendary Kansas coach Phog Allen and the court named for the game’s inventor James Naismith, 53-year-old Allen Fieldhouse is steeped in basketball history. The Rock Chalk chant before each game is one of the signature cheers in all of college sports.
University Arena is home to the New Mexico Lobos or better known as “The Pit” was opened in 1966. The nickname “The Pit” is a reference to the facility’s unique construction as the playing surface sits 37 feet below ground level. This steeply tiered arena seats more than 18,000 spectators.
One of the last of the old Big Ten arenas, the Mackey has been home for basketball fans for over 40 years. The building itself is structured much more differently than you would ever expect. In fact, the team benches are actually situated below the playing surface, the coaches will often find themselves jumping up to give their players game instructions. The arena’s aluminum dome roof makes the crowd noise reverberate to mega-decibel
level.
The Duke Blue Devils call this home. Cameron Indoor Stadium has a reputation for being one of the toughest stadiums for visiting teams. A big reason for this would be the highly vocal student section, affectionately called the Cameron Crazies. The students here in this section are loud and raucous and create a great atmosphere to
play a basketball game… if you’re the home team that is!
Although it may not be as pretty as the other premier college basketball venues, UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion does not lack history or tradition. The 11 NCAA Championship banners hanging from the rafters will tell you that! Listening to the school band play is also a treat! This is one of my favorite venues to catch a basketball game at any level.
The Hart Rec Center is another tiny venue as it seats just 3,600 fans making it very difficult to buy tickets. When it’s a full house, it really rocks and those with a weak heart should be carefull when attending. That explains why the student section is known as “The Hart Attack” section. Once there, you can’t help but notice hanging from the rafters all the championship banners dated from 1947 and 1954, a reminder that this is the school where Tom Heinsohn and Bob Cousy played at before going on to Boston Celtics and eventually the Hall of Fame.

It’s never been so easy to catch a great show! From Broadway and touring hits like Wicked to can’t-miss comedy like Bill Cosby to family fun with Cirque du Soleil, get out and see a show with just a few clicks.
Director Des MacAnuff and his crackerjack cast turned what might have been just a routine behind-the-music bio (about the rise of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) into an acclaimed megahit, snagging the Tony for Best Musical and making Jersey Boys tickets a white-hot commodity. The real surprise: the book. Clive Barnes calls it “as tight and absorbing as an Arthur Miller play.”
The misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West is known to be green, evil and covetous of ruby slippers. Gregory Maguire provided a new look at Elphaba in his bestselling book, now a Broadway show so popular it’s touring the nation. “Wicked” tickets treat you to the most popular tunes from Times Square, and the outrageous notion that green witches aren’t always wicked.
When this musical opened in 1997, small children were the biggest fans of Disney’s film “The Lion King.” Tickets for the Broadway version began selling like hotcakes, however, once grownups got a glimpse of the stage magic that director Julie Taymor and composer Elton John managed to create (along with Disney’s estimated $20m bankroll). Taymor’s balletic puppetry is eye candy for kids of all ages. LionKing, Hear the roar!
This hilarious new musical is the sleeper hit of the season, an ingratiatingly goofy show that began its life at the 1999 Toronto Fringe Festival. A die-hard showtune fan puts on his favorite cast album, and it magically bursts to life before the audience’s eyes-a fictitious 1928 musical called The Drowsy Chaperone. Tickets for the show are even more in demand after its five-Tony win.
